A Little About Me.
Hello friends! My name is Brooke Skousen, and I am an artist, mother of three, and travel enthusiast. I embraced the world of art from an early age when I began taking oil painting classes at 8 years of age and since then, I have continuously created art in one form or another. I attended USU and UVU, receiving a B.A. in art education in 2017. Following my graduation, I taught dozens of young children passionate about art, how to sharpen their skills, and to find the joy and excitement that comes with creating. My body of work has been growing since I began this new medium in wood at the beginning of 2020. I have spent my whole life creating works of art; from oil painting, watercolors, and drawing until I discovered artistic expression through wood. My father was always a skilled woodworker and had many tools on hand for me to experiment with. Once I started creating and building designs with wood, I knew I had finally found my niche and passion after many years of searching.
“I think of my work as a way to recreate and reuse scrap materials to transform them into something extraordinary. All of my pieces are created using 100% reclaimed wood, mostly hardwoods. I feel that in this way I am not only creating something aesthetically beautiful to look at and enjoy but at the same time I am preserving a small part of the community around me by saving beautiful wood that would have otherwise been thrown away. I am also able to transform that material into something that holds meaning and tells a story that others can keep as a part of their home forever.”
